George Baerveldt, M.D.

George Baerveldt, M.D., a founding member of the American Glaucoma Society, is recognized as one of the top glaucoma specialists in the world. He is also the recipient of the American Academy of Ophthalmology 2002 Senior Achievement Award and is honored in Woodward and White's "Best Doctors in America".

Dr. Baerveldt is a graduate of the University of Pretoria Medical School in South Africa and has held faculty positions at the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa, Estelle Doheny Eye Institute at the University of Southern California. From 1994 to 1996 he was the Director of Glaucoma at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. In 2003 he joined the University of California, Irvine Department of Ophthalmology as a full professor and became the Irving H. Leopold Professor and Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Baerveldt has published 65 peer-reviewed papers, nine book chapters and participated in 44 clinical glaucoma research trials. Dr. Baerveldt will assist the company in features for glaucoma surgeons for its Digital Microsurgical Workstation™.
