3D Vision Systems Consolidates Operations in San Diego
December 1, 2007
SAN DIEGO, CA - 3D Vision Systems, a venture-stage company developing a Digital Microsurgical Workstation System™ for ophthalmic and other specialties, today announced the consolidation of West Coast Offices to San Diego, CA.
The offices previously located in Irvine, CA were moved to San Diego, CA. San Diego is one of the largest biotech and medical instruments centers in the world, with a convergence of biotech and high tech industries. Proximity to the nations most prestigious research institutes, such as The Salk Institute, The Scripps Research Institute, the Burnham Institute for Medical Research, and the University of California, San Diego provides for fertile interaction and partnerships in many of the life sciences fields.
"San Diego is home to hundreds of biotech, pharma and medical instruments companies. It is as large or larger than Cambridge and San Francisco. San Diego also has been referred to as Silicon Valley South." said Dr. Warren G. Young, CEO/CTO of 3D Vision Systems. "With HP, Sony, SAIC, BAE, General Atomics, NCR and Siemens on one side, and Novartis, Amgen, Pfizer, and Johnson & Johnson on the other, we are in good company as we broaden the Company's portfolio and objectives."
About 3D Vision Systems:
Privately held 3D Vision Systems Inc., based in Irvine, California is developing a groundbreaking digital imaging technology for ophthalmic and other surgeries. The Company’s Digital Microsurgical Workstation System™ utilizes dual proprietary, high-resolution digital video cameras to capture three dimensional images of surgery in real-time. With the aid of a high speed "intelligence" processor and a 3D image processor, the System displays the stereoscopic, 3D images on a specialized high resolution monitor. The System is designed to allow for optimal viewing by surgeons and other OR staff and efficient use of space in the OR. 3D Vision Systems believes that its Digital Microsurgical Workstation System™ will ultimately replace current glass optics-based surgical microscopes, which have delivered only modest incremental improvements in image quality and ergonomics over the past few decades. 3D Vision Systems was founded by Dr. David Miller, an internationally recognized ophthalmic surgeon at Harvard Medical School, and Ram Rao, an accomplished entrepreneur with 25 years of experience in the ophthalmic market including several successful start-up companies.
