3D Vision Systems announces appointment of Industry Pioneer, John Gilbert, to Medical Advisory Board

IRVINE, CA - 3D Vision Systems, Inc. of Irvine, California announced today that John Gilbert has been appointed to its Medical Advisory Board and will assist the company with future planning and strategy.

John has had a long career in ophthalmology primarily with Iolab, one of the original intraocular lens companies and one of the dominant companies during the 1980’s and 1990’s. John was President of Iolab during most of the 80’s eventually becoming Vice Chairman and a Vice President of Johnson&Johnson, Iolab’s parent company. Under his leadership, Iolab became the market leader in the fast growing ophthalmic surgical market.

Since his retirement from Johnson&Johnson in 1992, John has maintained his industry contacts and served as a Vice Chairman and Director of several public companies including Keravision, Rita Medical and Staar Surgical. He has also served on the boards of several non-profit organizations including Project Orbis, Pomona Valley Hospital Foundation and the Pan-American Ophthalmology Foundation. Currently, John serves on the board and is a Director of Visiogen, a privately held device firm located in Irvine, CA developing an innovative accommodating intraocular lens.

In joining the 3D Vision team, John commented “The real-time imaging technology that 3D Vision Systems is developing will revolutionize ophthalmic surgery bringing the significant benefits of digital 3D imaging as well as a vast array of software and overlays that will greatly enhance the information the surgeon will have at his disposal.”

In commenting on John’s addition to the Medical Advisory Board, 3D Vision President and CEO Ram Rao said, “We are very pleased to have John’s expertise and industry contacts available to assist in the strategy and business development of 3D Vision Systems. John is universally considered one of the commercial pioneers of our industry as it grew to the multi-billion dollar ophthalmic market we see today.

John will be joined on the Medical Advisory Board by a distinguished group of ophthalmologists from a wide range of specialities including:

John graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Industrial Technology where he also played football under the legendary Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant.

He and his wife Nancy reside in Park City, Utah.
